I waxed my car and left it on for too long. Now there is a white chalky haze allover ther car, which is v hard to remove. I tried everything from hot water to scrubbing. It is allover the bonnet and metal parts aswell as the black trimmings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
How to remove white car wax stains from car body?
The easiest way is to re-wax your car. To remove the white
haze from the trim is to use %26quot;simple green%26quot; and a small
brush.

How do I discourage cats from walking on my car?
Every week someone's cat walks all over the hood of my car which I just cleaned. The cat leaves their paw prints all over the hood of my expensive car. I have nothing against cats but I always have to clean my car a lot since of this. Is there some sort of scented car wash that will discourage the cat from walking on my car? I have a feeling that the cat likes to sit on my car because it's warm on the hood.
How do I discourage cats from walking on my car?
Try something cats will wont like but u also remember if you put clrox, anything that is a cleaning soultion do put that is toxic you dont want to kill them though try a noise maker something loud just buy a car protector i know the cats will go on it but they wont stain it then!
How do I discourage cats from walking on my car?
we put garlic and cheyenne pepper in our trash and they stay out of it but tear up everyone else's on the block. i don't know if you can take one or the other or both and mix them with water and spray it around your car? someone else I'm sure has a better idea than that but thought it might help.
They walk on it because it is warm...
Guess you could hose it down with cold water when you come home..
Guess you could put it in a garage and close the door
They do not like the scent of green apples.
That is about all I know on this subject but...

Well cats hate sticky stuff on their paws, so i suggest you get a big cardboard box... open it... put double stick tape all over it, and put it on top of your car. Once they go on it like 2-3 times and they feel the sticky stuff, they'll know not to go on your car. I know it sounds stupid, but that's the best i can think of. There's also aluminum foil, they hate the sound of it.... buy some of that and stick it on the roof every night and see what happens. If all fails, buy a car cover and cover your car every night... that will solve the problem of the foot prints.
rub your dog all over it
How can you discourage a cat from doing ANYTHING? If it is there, they will sit on it ;keyboard, newspaper, car..
If your car is park out side there's notting you can do. You are lucky they are not at your window looking for you.
Try sprinkling this cat repellent around your car: http://www.critter-repellent.com/cat/cat鈥?/a>
I have no experience with that product, but it might be worth a try.
I like the cardboard/tape idea. Maybe you can get a huge box, break it down and put double sided tape all over it. I dunno, might work for awhile anyway. Or you could just get a couple beach towels and tuck them under your wipers and lay them over your hood. Will not keep the cats off really but might cut down the paw prints. Maybe if you are really really bored on your day off, lay in wait with a water sprayer/hose and spray the hell out of them when they do it, lol.
I have this problem too , so good luck!
Two great tricks for keeping any pet off cars/furniture, etc. Use a sheet of aluminum foil, they hate the sound and feel of it. Or a better one is to take one of those large clear plastic floor guards that you put underneath a rolling chair and put it on the car hood upside down with the spiky side up. It won't cause any injury but it's the most uncomfortable thing to walk on (try it yourself, it's horrible!) and the animal will get the idea real fast! I've used this before for a certain chair the cats wouldn't stay out of. It only took one time and I removed it to put back under my desk and they never even tried it again! Good luck!
I have 5 cats and 2 things they hate are orange peal and teabags place these around your drive and garden and they avoid it. Also DON'T use bleach or other amonia based cleaners aound your car because the think that another cat has invaded their teratory (with if the teabags work it won't be for long) because it smells just like cat scent to them.linux web hosting hair straightener

What is the new car that has the speedometer shown up on the windshield?
I recently saw a commercial for a car that has the speedometer shown up on the windshield? Or something along those lines. Anyone know what car is it is or how to get it on a normal car?
What is the new car that has the speedometer shown up on the windshield?
The display on the windshield is called a Heads Up Display. They have been around over 20 years. they were first available in GM vehicles. Today you can find them in some Pontiacs, Cadilacs, and the GMC acadia. They are options though so all of them dont have it. The corvette also has the option. Some BMWs also have the option. 5 and 6 series BMWs only. If you want it in a car that doesnt come stock with it, There are some cheap kits on ebay, just put in %26quot;heads up display%26quot;
What is the new car that has the speedometer shown up on the windshield?
It is called a HUD....or heads up display. It has been available on the Pontiac Grand Prix and the Chevrolet Corvette for a while. I think Cadillac has a few models with it as well.
BMW 5 Series has a HUD (heads up display) on the windscreen showing speed and stuff also has night vision FLIR (forward looking Infra Red ), hope thats what your looking for ;) link below
theres many cars with this. corvette, bmw, some lexus and mercedes have this. its called a hud or head up display.
The 2006-2009 Chevy Corvette has it.
Many other cars have it.
Usually only expensive cars.
There's plenty of them. Even the late 90's Nissan Bluebird/Altima had it.
That's old technology. GM had it in a couple of their vehicles as an option in the early 90's.
As mentioned above, it's called HUD ( Head's Up Display )

How do you tell if a car has good gas mileage?
I guess I'm new to this whole %26quot;car-buying%26quot; deal. I'm not really sure what it means when a car has a certain amount of miles on it. Does it have something to do with how much gas costs? What's a good number of miles and what isn't?
Can someone explain to me the basics I'd need to know about finding a car with good gas mileage? I'm interested in buying old cars, which is the thing.
How do you tell if a car has good gas mileage?
How many miles a car has on it is how many miles it has been driven. Gas mileage is how many miles per gallon it gets. Over 30 would be good.
How do you tell if a car has good gas mileage?
lookk for the words honda ,toyota , mitsubishi ,nissan or datsun some where on the vehicle
they figure an average car gets 15k a year on driving. so take how old the car is and multiply. if over then they figure high mileage and don't buy unless way cheaper.
gas mileage is how many miles it gets to a gallon of gas. this can also be affected by how you drive and how well maintained the car is.
new cars come with how much they get. ask the seller if he knows.
later you check by buying gas. driving and putting back the same amount of gas and divide the miles into the difference.
I say anything Under 130.000 is good. Im looking to buy a car and I need to look at the Mileage on it, I think I did but I forgot what it was... tehe :) I really need to look at the miles on my car ''IM BUYING''''
The gas mileage listed for a vehicle is a EPA estimated mileage. In other words tests have been run on that model of vehicle and the gas mileage for highway and city driving, these numbers are estimated and are there to give you a basic idea of what kind of mileage it could get. Your actual mileage will vary and it can be higher or lower than the estimated amounts. For example my 99 Monte Carlo was EPA rated 19 MPG city and I regularly got 25 miles city in horrendous traffic conditions. Alot of it is going to come down to how you drive, if you just drive it easy you'll always get better mileage than if your always pedal to the metal everywhere you go.

How do you start up a car sales business?
I've visited a few car lots recently and it got me thinking as to how these car traders start up their businesses. I'm not talking about car dealerships, i'm looking to know about the small independent car sellers and how they got going.
(This is a UK based question only as i don't live in the USA)
Thanks!
How do you start up a car sales business?
Speak to your local Business Link for free information on setting up your business. They have information for specific industries as well as general stuff.
One of your key things is location. Finding premises on a site where people can see what you have on offer as they drive past and where they have room to park to visit you are important. The other key thing, as with most businesses is marketing. How are you going to compete with everyone else who's doing this? Again, Business Link has good information on this.
Good luck!

Lease some premises with a forecourt.
Buy some cars.
Sell them for more than you bought them for.
Simple, you rent an area of land or a showroom.
You buy cars at car auctions, valet them and sell them at a profit in your showroom.
Get some cars and stick some prices in the windows. Easy.
be carefull i know 5 popular company's that went into recession friday, they were doing well but the economy is not good. They were car credit companies though so if your not providing finance you will be fine

How does an alternator charge a car battery?
I want to make a windmill to charge a car battery. How does an alternator in a car do it? How does the car take the AC coming out of the alternator and make it dc at the appropriate voltage and current to charge it and what is the appropriate voltage and current to charge a car battery? Any help would be appreciated.
How does an alternator charge a car battery?
There are a set of high current rectifiers in the alternator that rectify the AC to DC. A regulator controls the voltage and current into the battery. The regulator takes into account the amount of charge in the battery, and the temperature, to adjust the charging current.
Lead acid batteries are very sensitive to charge rate. They can be damaged easily.
You probably want the regulator as well as the alternator from an auto. You will have to gear up the rotation rate. The alternator need to be turning at at least 1000 RPM to operate.
.
How does an alternator charge a car battery?
You do not need the powerful car alternator to charge car battery, because car alternator is designed to power the whole car.It is a 3 phases AC generator, inside has 6 rectifiers to convert AC into DC for car usage. It can produce more than 30 amperes. To charge the car battery, you 3 amperes or less is good enough.
Car alternator might built in with a voltage regulator to maintain output about 14 volts DC. Car battery stops charging by the alternator when car battery voltage reaches 14 volts.
To turn the car alternator it requires quite a large torque, unless your windmill is quite big like the one uses in Holland. If your windmill is a small home make type, you may choose the bicycle light generator to produce electricity. Its output is 6 volts AC and if you are lucky, you might find some bigger one produces 12 volts AC. Using two 6 volts generators in series (observe polarity when you connect them) shall give output 12 volts. You need to buy a rectifier called 1N5404 to series the output of AC generator to produce DC. Then hook it to the battery for charging.
An unmodified automotive alternator probably needs to run at least 1500 to 2500 RPM. When it runs in its normal speed range (about 2000 to 10000 RPM), the voltage regulator that is designed to work with it keeps the output at the proper voltage for charging a 12 volt automotive battery (about 14 or 15 volts). I believe that the voltage regulator is usually in the alternator housing, but it may be mounted externally.
Some people have modified standard automotive alternators by replacing the field coils with permanent magnets. That makes it possible to operate at much lower speeds. Look at: http://www.loghomebuilders.org/wind-powe鈥?/a> With this approach, you can鈥檛 use the alternator鈥檚 normal voltage regulator. You can probably get an inverter to accept a fairly wide range of input voltages and provide a constant output voltage.
Here are some more alternator links:

Most modern automotive alternators have a voltage regulator/rectifier
unit built in.
If the one you have doesn't, buy the unit that went with it in
the vehicle it came from.
It's 'off the shelf' hardware.
Hook it up as it was connected in the vehicle, and when the
alternator is turned fast enough it will charge the battery.
Alternator = generator = motor that is being powered.
There is a law of physics that if you pass a conducting wire through a rotating field you create electricity. The crankshaft of the car rotates the fan belt which turns the rotor in the alternator which is a large coil of copper wire inside of a permanent magnet field so it acts just like a generator.
Because the rotor run through the north and south poles of the magnetic field it generates alternating current (hence the name alternator and why we use AC current from generators for our homes). The voltage regulator blocks out one phase (half) of the current to make it into DC current.
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_鈥?/a>
%26quot;In electricity generation, an electrical generator is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy, generally using electromagnetic induction. The reverse conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy is done by a motor, and motors and generators have many similarities. A generator forces electric charges to move through an external electrical circuit, but it does not create electricity or charge, which is already present in the wire of its windings. It is somewhat analogous to a water pump, which creates a flow of water but does not create the water inside. The source of mechanical energy may be a reciprocating or turbine steam engine, water falling through a turbine or waterwheel, an internal combustion engine, a wind turbine, a hand crank, the sun or solar energy, compressed air or any other source of mechanical energy.%26quot;
The alternator has a voltage regulator to keep the current steady and low enough for the batter to handle. If you run a fan belt to the alternator that is spun by a windmill then you will be creating 12 volts DC current. The voltage regulator evens out the spikes caused by going at different speeds, and cuts out the negative half of the electrical phase making it DC current, so it takes off some of the energy, keeping the output at 12 volts DC. Most alternators have their voltage regulators built in although on older cars (pre 1980 it was a separate part).
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternator
%26quot;An alternator is an electromechanical device that converts mechanical energy to alternating current electrical energy. Most alternators use a rotating magnetic field but linear alternators are occasionally used. In principle, any AC electrical generator can be called an alternator, but usually the word refers to small rotating machines driven by automotive and other internal combustion engines.%26quot;
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltage_reg鈥?/a>
%26quot;A voltage regulator is an electrical regulator designed to automatically maintain a constant voltage level.
It may use an electromechanical mechanism, or passive or active electronic components. Depending on the design, it may be used to regulate one or more AC or DC voltages.%26quot;
Connecting DC to AC is a very bad idea, you need to remove that voltage regulator or get an older alternator that doesn't have one in it or use an alternator from a different source or use a rectifier to convert the DC current back into AC current. Solar cells create DC power so need to be run through a rectifer before being tied into a house hold grid. However a solar cell can be tied directly to a battery.
Running a windmill powered car alternator to charge a car battery is an excellent idea since that is EXACTLY what it is designed to do. You are only replacing the mechanical power of the engine with the mechanical power of the wind. You don't need any extra circuits or to make any changes the power will be conditioned to be just right for the 12 volt battery. You want to use a modern car alternator since it has the proper size voltage regulator built in. All you need to do is to make the windmill; by either putting wind blades on the alternator or connecting the alternator's rotor to a windmill rotor through a fan belt. Then run wires directly from the alteranator to the battery (make sure to get the poles right, but then you problaby know that). There is no other wiring or mechanical system needed except something high to hold the windmill up and into the wind. A tail on the end of it and swivel will let it turn to always point into the wind.
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windmill
%26quot;A windmill is a machine that is powered by the energy of the wind. It is designed to convert the energy of the wind into more useful forms using rotating blades or sails. The term also refers to the structure it is commonly built on. In much of Europe, windmills served originally to grind grain, though later applications included pumping water and, more recently, generation of electricity. Recent electricity generating versions are referred to as wind turbines.%26quot;
Wind turbines are designed to make AC power so you are making a windmill. Wind turbines have other differences and are more efficent, but you don't need that extra detail.
To make your system run better you could hook a solar cell in line with the battery (in series) so that on sunny windless days the car will still charge.
Hard way: lash up a car alternator and regulator, figure all the mechanical issues, gearing, etc. Don't forget to make it weatherproof while you're at it. But at least it will have the right charge rate for a single battery built-in.
Easy way: buy a kit that is pre-made for the task. Check out a marine supply like West Marine (link below), they sell small wind turbines for sailboats, as well as charger controllers, inverters, solar panels and so forth. Larger systems are availble for fixed use (second link.)

%26quot;A windmill is a machine that is powered by the energy of the wind. It is designed to convert the energy of the wind into more useful forms using rotating blades or sails. The term also refers to the structure it is commonly built on. In much of Europe, windmills served originally to grind grain, though later applications included pumping water and, more recently, generation of electricity. Recent electricity generating versions are referred to as wind turbines.%26quot;
How do you get proof of car insurance without a car?
I had my brother listed as a driver on my insurance policy and he is moving so will no longer be using my car. The insurance company is requiring that I show proof of insurance before removing him from the policy. They are telling me there is no other way to remove him from the policy due to a DUI charge. Is it even possible to get car insurance without a car? What should I do?
How do you get proof of car insurance without a car?
If you have an insurance company that is refusing to allow you to remove an authorized driver from your policy unless you PROVE the authorized driver has insurance elsewhere, it's time to get a new policy in place at another company and then drop your current insurance. That is ridiculous.
If you want to stay with that company for some reason (although I couldn't think of any) you might call your agent and ask why you need to do that, and tell him you will switch if you can't, and see what happens.
How do you get proof of car insurance without a car?
http://carquotes.50webs.org - try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.
call your insurance agent and them them to send you a ins card or proof that you are insured
You can buy a personal policy. In TX an SR-22 will work.
that's strange, they shouldn't require you to prove he has other insurance, it must be a company policy. normally, you should be able to sign a driver exclusion to remove him as a driver on the policy. ask to speak with your agent directly and try to explain the situation to him, maybe he can find a loophole for you.
they may be misinterpreting you. If he still lived in the same household but you wanted him removed then you would need to prove that he is insured elsewhere. You should ask them if you can sign an endorsement saying he will NOT drive the vehicle and if he does you are legally liable for any claim and if that would be enough to have him removed. I don't understand the need for him to show insurance if he no longer lives with you.
shop around and see what you can do. Getting a driver with a DUI off your policy should do wonders for your premiums as long as your record is goodmyspace songs in love with married man

How does importing a car to Canada from the States work?
I've recently located the car I want, however, it is south of the border in Detroit. The car is used and being sold for about $2,000 USD.
What costs would be involved with bringing this car back into Ontario, and what would need to be addressed? I want to know if it is worth pursuing, or if I should just be patient and wait for one to be sold close by. Thanks in advance!
How does importing a car to Canada from the States work?
You would have to pay GST and pay a fee for Canada Customs forms. The importation forms require that the car passes a safety. Then, you would have to get your car licensed in Ontario (temp permit from NY would get you home).

How long after a car crash do the insurers pay out?
I had a crash four weeks ago in my car - not my fault. My car is a write off and the other party's insurance, whilst not yet fully admitting liability, sent somebody to inspect my car, a week and a half ago. How soon/long should I expect to receive a payment from them?
How long after a car crash do the insurers pay out?
it depends where u are usually 1 month after the ispection
but u gotta call them.

How much does a car inspection cost in Texas?
I need to get my car inspection done before the month is out and I am trying to budget the cost in. Unfortunately I have no idea how much this costs, and google isn't much help. Can anyone tell me how much a car inspection costs? I live in Austin, TX. My car is a 2007 Yaris, so I know it will pass especially since I have been keep up with the maintenance.
How much does a car inspection cost in Texas?
An inspection is $39.99. I live in Houston. I am pretty sure the state set that price so it should be that every where in Texas.
How much does a car inspection cost in Texas?
It's $14.50. plus the emissions test, which is $16.25 in Travis County.
check out the Texas DPS website....its a start.
I am not sure about the chart. In austin, travis county, it looks like you will need the Safety and OBDII/TSI inspection. It looks that should cost upto 28.50.
If you are looking for a place for the inspection, just about every car place on Jollyville, north of the Arboretum area does the inspection.

How to avoid montana car registration taxes on spouses car for military?
In Montana military are exempt, period. We don't pay taxes on car registration, it costs less than 10 dollars to register you car. I just got out of the military but my husband is still in. We want to know what we need to show our bring since the phones are not being answered down there and it is a long drive to just ask a question. He is not on my title, do I need to put him on my title? Can two people be on a title?
How to avoid montana car registration taxes on spouses car for military?
It costs less than ten dollars to register your car? If you are talking license plate cost only, then that's probably true (unless you get he fund raiser ones) Otherwise, you'll pay way more than that as a civilian.
Yes, he has to be on the title and yes you can have the names of two people on the title. It will take at least a couple of weeks to get the title back from Deer Lodge. However, we tried to do that (when my husband was still active duty) and the assessor looked at my husband like he was on crack and said %26quot;nice try%26quot; and charged us the regular rate for the second car. If it had been in his name only, we probably could have gotten away with it.
How to avoid montana car registration taxes on spouses car for military?
Two people can be on the same title, and yes since you are married to him, and he is still in, you don't need to pay taxes. but he needs to be on your title. I am military myself and am doing it in Vegas, since I am a California resident!

How often should a car be waxed in California?
I live in southern CA where the summers get very hot and the winters are mild. We don't get much rain and obviously no snow. I wax my car about once a quarter - or 3-4 times a year. This seems to work fine as long as I make sure to wax the car right before the HOT part of summer. Any other recommendations? My car is a silver sedan.
How often should a car be waxed in California?
That's how often I wax my '89 civic and some people think I got a new paint job. Keep what you are doing and try to park under a shade.
How often should a car be waxed in California?
Like skin on our bodies, paint and clear coat must be kept clean and protected. Think of hand and body lotion as wax for your skin.
If your car is hand washed once a week and garage kept, depending on your geographic location, you can go as long as 90 days before needing to apply wax.
If the vehicle is black and or you reside in an extreme environment, it should be waxed every 45 days.
I lived in southern Cal for many many years. I always waxed my vehicles once a month. You may not have snow etc but you do have smog which damages paint finish. I could have gone to waxing it once every two months but I liked the extra wax protection to help prevent scratches etc and if some yahoo opens their door against your car and leaves a paint transfer, it rubs right off on fresh wax.identifying rows vb

How can i hook up my car subs and amp to a home theater system?
I have a home theater system, already with some nice speakers. I also have a really nice sound system in my car, and specifically i want to take my amplifier and 2 subs out of my car and attach them to my home system. I have looked around the internet but i can never find any specific instructions. All i really think I need is a way to convert my amp's power cord (usually attached to my car battery) to be able to plug it into the wall.. what kind of converter would i need? I think i can handle the rest (just plug the RCA cables into the system and etc.)
So mainly what i'm asking is how to convert my power cable that usually is attached to my car battery, into a cord that can be plugged into a wall outlet?
Thanks!
How can i hook up my car subs and amp to a home theater system?
If you want to blow your amp go ahead your amp runs off of 12 volts dc your house outlet is 120 volts ac so go ahead and let the smoke out of your amp and see how good it is then
How can i hook up my car subs and amp to a home theater system?
well the only thing you need is a power converter. d/c to a/c. they sell them at radio shack or fry's electronic stores. if you have a big amp. consider buying a really big converter, like if you have 1000 watts amp, your going to need a least a 50amp or more d/c to a/c converter. which is going to run you at least $150 or more. its simple hookup, red + is power, black is - negative ground. after you get that you should be set if you know how to wire everything else.
You may be able to find a transformer power supply that will convert the 120VAC to 12VDC. Be careful though, that car amp will draw a LOT of current: get a power supply that is properly rated. You'll also need to make sure that the connector on the power supply matches the input to the amplifier.
Then the question becomes: what signal will you feed to the amplifier? It's not clear that any output of your home system will be compatible with the inputs of your car system.
Finally, the system which sounds really good in your car will probably sound like crap in your home, because it is designed to work in a small resonant space (your car) whereas your home is a large non-resonant space.
Give this idea some more thought before you invest a lot of effort in it.

How do you negotiate with used car sales associates and with individuals selling preowned cars?
I'm going to buy a used car soon. How do you negotiate with a used car sales associate for the best price? And how do you negotiate with an individual that's selling his/her used car? Thanks.
How do you negotiate with used car sales associates and with individuals selling preowned cars?
Have an idea what the car is worth first so you know if the selling price is in the ballpark. Don't fall in love with that particular car; there are thousands and thousands of used cars out there. Get a carfax report if you can and be prepared to walk away immediately if you can't come to an agreement or if the seller balks about having your mechanic check it out.

What percentage of people use their garage for their car?
Living in a neighborhood full of 2 car garages I am always amazed by the number of cars seen in the driveways and on the streets.
1. How many cars in your household?
2. Does your home have a garage? If so, how many cars will it hold?
3. What number, if any, of the cars in your household actually reside in your garage?
Bonus question (You'll get an extra thank you. that's about it): What would it take for you to get your car in the garage or do you even want it in there?
What percentage of people use their garage for their car?
I own a nursery and go to more than 200 homes per year drawing landscape plans and installing shrubs and trees. I'd say 70 to 80 percent of homeowners use their garage for storage and parking. Most leave one side partially empty to allow parking one vehicle. The houses I landscape are in the $250K - $500K price range. Most of these people have 3 vehicles. A trend in newer homes for several years is bigger garages. Most homes costing $400k and up now have a 3-car garage standard. At my home, I have a two-story carriage house. I can park 2 cars inside. I also have a horse stable with a parking area for my truck. I like your question very much. Most people don't realize that housing and automobiles account for around 50% of all jobs in America.
What percentage of people use their garage for their car?
4 car garage 3 cars always in unless driving them
1. We have 2 cars
2. Our home has a 3 car garage
3. 2 cars fit in our garage, and we have a car's width of junk. My husband is a pack rat and it annoys me greatly that we have so much ... just ... stuff ... around.
My brother also has a 3 car garage, but cannot park any of his cars in it because it's messy and full of junk. I don't like this trend of using the garage as a storage unit.
My garage would have to be rearranged to hold a bicycle. We have three cars and a 2 1/2 car garage. The trouble is that I have wood working tools and machines and all that goes with that and I need another garage the same size to hold it all. I don't see us parking a car in the garage until I'm dead. If only I could build a separate shop space.

How do you begin rebuilding a car?
I don't know much about cars, only how to change tires, headlamps and tail lights, and checking the fluids. Do you recommend that I could rebuild a car or do I need some experience with car mechanics to try this? If so, what type of car do you recommend starting with? I do have a mechanical mind meaning that I usually can figure how something works once I take it apart.
How do you begin rebuilding a car?
Start simple, rebuild a lawnmower first.
How do you begin rebuilding a car?
Well, i know nothing about damage repair but to tune up an old car is very time and money consuming. Think before you do the task because you could be left with half a finished project and half of your money spent!
If you don't have any idea baout engines I'd say leave that to the pros
You are getting in over your head.
The best engine to start with is an Old VW bug motor. They are simple and easy to work with. There are a ton of books and instruction manuals to help you along the way as well.
Plus, you will always find the parts you need. They aren't hard to come by. Also, you can even build it bigger as you rebuild it.
I would recommend an american classic. They are easy to work on and are lookers.
I have a 1980 corvette and it is a great car. You can get a nice one under 15k and the parts are cheap. There are also several places that sell every part of that car so finding parts is easy.
because you said rebuilding a car (not just the engine) I would start with whatever is broken. In an old classic there is plenty to fix.
As for rebuilding an engine take it to a pro if you want it to last very long.
Another thing is there is no computer so when it is not running well it is easy to figure out.
the first thing you must do is inventory what you have..
is the frame or body damaged badly ?
are most of the trim parts there ? they can be very costly..
first time i would go with a camaro or mustang 67-69 just because they are simple and easy to get parts for...
stay away from more obscure cars till you get a feel for things
Although the hands on is the best part of rebuilding a car. it takes alot of research as to what kind are you able to do and what is your budget.
I think a Chevy Blazer 4X4 70', 72' is the perfect start vehicle for anyone and I am partial to them as well. Plan on spending around 5000.00 for this rebuild not counting actual purchase of the truck. when your done and your sweat is dry you will have a great truck to show off.
Get a 400 cubic motor for it not the standard 350 it is a better choice.
I rebuilt my first car from the ground up when I was sixteen. I am not an automotive professional, just a tinkerer. I am currently on my eighth restoration. It has become my pastime. I always begin by dismantling and labeling the parts. Then when it is down to the frame or basic chassis, begin cleaning, painting, repairs, and reassembly. Take your time and get a good reference manual. Rebuilding the components your self saves lots of money and you kind of learn as you go. The only part I have ever sent out to be repaired was an automatic transmission. The rest I have done myself.
1- 1928 Ford Model A Roadster Pick up
2- 1949 Ford Convertible
3- 1967 Ford Cortina GT
4- 1957 VW Bug
5- 1955 VW Bug Convertible
6- 1969 Mercury Monterrey Convertible
7- 1973 Jaguar XJ6 Sedan
8- 1970 VW Bug (in progress)
Start by going to the library and get acquainted with the technical terms and diagrams of everything that generally comprises of an automobile as a whole. Then start out with smaller jobs, small engine repair like a lawn mower or something inexpensive so if you break something or give up the is no harm done. I wouldnt recoomend taking on the task of buying a second vehicle and just taking everyhting apart. Starting out tis will be overwhelming and the not only have you lost what ever money you have invested but you have a pile of parts that most likely go to ruin. Start out small, ask questions, the whole idea of restoring a car is exciting but not properly equipped with the right tools(knowledge or actual tools) will make it extremely difficult to the point that if you attempt a big project now and fail you may never want to attempt it again. But if you start out small you will build your confidence and mechanical knowledge to encourage you to take on more and more diificult tasks. Don't be discouraged and don't let anyone tell you to leave it to the professionals. What if someone said that to Davinci or Earnhardt. Two examples of people that are professionals but who haven't always been a professional. You could be one too one day with time, patience, and the willing to learn how things properly function. Good luck on your quest it is neverending. I know I am currently on my 13th vehicle and I am only 27. Thanks
You need to ask yourself why you wanna do this. If you intend to drive it around Sundays or so, it's gotta be a looker and something you gonna be proud of when finished. That will be a motivation aswell.
Corvette is a good one to look at, fibre bodies are easy to repair and maintain, straight forward engine and mechanics.
Fibre is easy to respray and would have a more pro finish.
Go for it, you'll be suprised what you can achieve once you put your mind to it.
Involve your wife or girlfriend, it's twice the fun!
forget it until you learn more about cars or take a mechanics course, all it would do is really frustrate you and the project would be a total loss.

How far should a car thermostat go before it is unsafe?
My car recently started overheating and acting funny so I took it in and was told I needed to replace my thermostat and get my radiator flushed. I did both. The car has not overheated since then, but the thermostat on the dashboard goes up pretty high. It hasn't gone all the way to top to over heat, but it has been pretty close. It seems to go down when I go faster, but if I slow down at lights and such it creeps up high. I don't honestly know if I my car did this before and I am just being paranoid because I never paid any attention to it before.
Am I being paranoid? How high can the temperature gauge in the dashboard go before I should be worried? I am supposed to be driving a 6 hour trip this weekend (one way) and I don't want to get stranded. I am also moving cross country next month and would like to know if this is going to affect me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

not good dude, your not paranoid.
your car cooling system has a problem. you should have it looked at ASAP.
it could be a number of things like... bad water pump, or maybe the cooling fans are not operating,
How far should a car thermostat go before it is unsafe?
your thermostat should have heat rating 195 degrees probably. If it goes any higher its not good or you have another problem
could be your electric fan is not coming on, there is a thermo fan switch located in the rad on most cars , you actually refer to the temperature gauge as the gauge on your dash
sounds like your radiator is wearing out. The extra air flow when you're driving is what cools off the engine...that's the giveaway. I'd also check to see if your fan is working.
Make sure you had the right thermostat replaced, there is a summer stat and a winter stat. newer cars only take one size. If it is installed backwards, it will give you trouble big time. I have seen mechanics put it in upside down, it will work but not very well.
Check your water pump, it may look and feel good but it may be slowly failing. The bearing and or bushings wear out Anything past 3/4's on the gauge on your dash, be worried. A low grade Antifreeze can cause it, check your hoses, upper and lower for softness or mushy, if they feel hard replace them, even tho you don't use the heater, check those hoses as well. Even tho you had the radiator flushed, it may be weak, I always replaced mine with a new one, not rebuilt. If you over heat you could blow the transmission and even burn up the engine, Always pay attention to all your gauges, they are there to warn you.columnheader ie hosted control

How to remove white car wax stains from car body?
I waxed my car and left it on for too long. Now there is a white chalky haze allover ther car, which is v hard to remove. I tried everything from hot water to scrubbing. It is allover the bonnet and metal parts aswell as the black trimmings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
How to remove white car wax stains from car body?
The easiest way is to re-wax your car. To remove the white
haze from the trim is to use %26quot;simple green%26quot; and a small
brush.
How to remove white car wax stains from car body?
warm soap and water , you just have to keep rubbing and be more carefull with wax

GOOD LUCK FINDING OUT HON
Also DON'T use bleach or other amonia based cleaners aound your car because the think that another cat has invaded their teratory (with if the teabags work it won't be for long) because it smells just like cat scent to them.

The display on the windshield is called a Heads Up Display. They have been around over 20 years. they were first available in GM vehicles. Today you can find them in some Pontiacs, Cadilacs, and the GMC acadia. They are options though so all of them dont have it. The corvette also has the option. Some BMWs also have the option. 5 and 6 series BMWs only. If you want it in a car that doesnt come stock with it, There are some cheap kits on ebay, just put in %26quot;heads up display%26quot;

Good luck!

Here are some more alternator links:
http://web.media.mit.edu/~nathan/nepal/g鈥?/a>
http://www.superchevy.com/technical/engi鈥?/a>
Most modern automotive alternators have a voltage regulator/rectifier
unit built in.
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_鈥?/a>
%26quot;In electricity generation, an electrical generator is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy, generally using electromagnetic induction. The reverse conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy is done by a motor, and motors and generators have many similarities. A generator forces electric charges to move through an external electrical circuit, but it does not create electricity or charge, which is already present in the wire of its windings. It is somewhat analogous to a water pump, which creates a flow of water but does not create the water inside. The source of mechanical energy may be a reciprocating or turbine steam engine, water falling through a turbine or waterwheel, an internal combustion engine, a wind turbine, a hand crank, the sun or solar energy, compressed air or any other source of mechanical energy.%26quot;
%26quot;An alternator is an electromechanical device that converts mechanical energy to alternating current electrical energy. Most alternators use a rotating magnetic field but linear alternators are occasionally used. In principle, any AC electrical generator can be called an alternator, but usually the word refers to small rotating machines driven by automotive and other internal combustion engines.%26quot;
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltage_reg鈥?/a>
%26quot;A voltage regulator is an electrical regulator designed to automatically maintain a constant voltage level.
It may use an electromechanical mechanism, or passive or active electronic components. Depending on the design, it may be used to regulate one or more AC or DC voltages.%26quot;
%26quot;A windmill is a machine that is powered by the energy of the wind. It is designed to convert the energy of the wind into more useful forms using rotating blades or sails. The term also refers to the structure it is commonly built on. In much of Europe, windmills served originally to grind grain, though later applications included pumping water and, more recently, generation of electricity. Recent electricity generating versions are referred to as wind turbines.%26quot;
Here are some more alternator links:

http://www.superchevy.com/technical/engi鈥?/a>
Most modern automotive alternators have a voltage regulator/rectifier
unit built in.
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_鈥?/a>
%26quot;In electricity generation, an electrical generator is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy, generally using electromagnetic induction. The reverse conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy is done by a motor, and motors and generators have many similarities. A generator forces electric charges to move through an external electrical circuit, but it does not create electricity or charge, which is already present in the wire of its windings. It is somewhat analogous to a water pump, which creates a flow of water but does not create the water inside. The source of mechanical energy may be a reciprocating or turbine steam engine, water falling through a turbine or waterwheel, an internal combustion engine, a wind turbine, a hand crank, the sun or solar energy, compressed air or any other source of mechanical energy.%26quot;
%26quot;An alternator is an electromechanical device that converts mechanical energy to alternating current electrical energy. Most alternators use a rotating magnetic field but linear alternators are occasionally used. In principle, any AC electrical generator can be called an alternator, but usually the word refers to small rotating machines driven by automotive and other internal combustion engines.%26quot;
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltage_reg鈥?/a>
%26quot;A voltage regulator is an electrical regulator designed to automatically maintain a constant voltage level.
It may use an electromechanical mechanism, or passive or active electronic components. Depending on the design, it may be used to regulate one or more AC or DC voltages.%26quot;

Getting a driver with a DUI off your policy should do wonders for your premiums as long as your record is good

How long can a car run on a jumped battery?
I need to get home from school this weekend for a wake, but my car's battery has been dead and I haven't had a chance to replace it. The ride home is usually about 4 hours. If I jumped the car, do you think I could make it home without the battery dying? I don't know much about cars, and I don't want to end up in the Bronx with a dead battery =\ Really need to get home though.
How long can a car run on a jumped battery?
To be safe I would get a new battery and have your charging system checked out to make sure the alternator isn't bad.
How long can a car run on a jumped battery?
If your battery is dead but not defective, you will have no problem.
As stated by another responder, the alternator will charge up the battery as you run the engine. If the battery, or alternator for that matter, is defective, the car will die soon after you begin the trip. Look on the dash once the car is started. There is usually a battery indicator somewhere. If this lights up, or shows a low voltage indication that won't go away after a short while, you better replace the battery before the trip.
You MUST determine why the battery died. If you left the lights on and drained the battery, then a jump start will get the engine running and the alternator will recharge the battery to be as good as new. If your alternator is bad, then new batteries will drain and you will be in you original spot asking another question on Y!A. Jumpstart your car and with the engine running, remove the negative (black) battery cable. If the engines dies your alternator is bad.
Before you leave take your battery to a local auto parts store and have them test it if the battery is bad then replace it. If your battery will hold a charge then you should be able to jump it and use it, your alternator should keep the battery charged. If you are worried about the alternator the auto parts store can test that also.
You will make it.
When you jump start the battery, the alternator recharges the battery as the car runs.
You will need to drive for more than 30 minutes to ensure that the battery is safe from dying out.
If your car does not start again after the drive you will need to have your alternator checked %26amp; replace your car battery.
That depends on the cells inside the battery. If they're good, you may get a few more years out of the battery. If one or more of the cells is bad, the battery will not hold a charge and you won't be able to restart the car after you shut it off.
When you jump the bettery it will stay on however long you keep your car on. The battery is just to start the car then after that the power comes from the alternator.
So just when you star the car will you have to jump it
as long as the alternator and belt is good it should build back up. it also depends on the battery if it don,t have a weak cell or a dead one.
change your battery before you go.........you probably wont make it if in fact its bad........
I dont know.

How to build a car propelled from suspended mass?
For my physics class I need to build a car that will travel 6 m and lightly touch a wall. There will be an egg on the front of the car and it can not break. The car must be self propelled from a suspended mass and pulley system. Any design ideas, pictures, or tips?
How to build a car propelled from suspended mass?
I assume your school provides %26quot;Erector Set%26quot; components to build a car with wheels, axles, chassis, and a tower. You need a tower roughly 1.5 meter tall on the car. Suspend a pulley system with a mechanical advantage of 6:1. Wrap 6 meters of string around the rear axle then up through the pully system. Hang masses off the pully system until the car rolls smoothly.
THEN: Test it and trim the string until it just goes 6 meters, starts to lift the masses again and stops.

How can I sell my used 2005 car without the tile to my friend who is short on cash?
I just bought a newer used car from 2005 at the toyota dealer and I got the loan through them. I bought the car for $12,800 total with taxes and I put $2,000 dollars down when I bought it. So now I owe about $11,000 on it. I would like to sell it to a friend for $12,000 and make back about a $1,000 on it. This way I'll only end up loosing the $800. He doesn't have enough money so he would have to take out a loan from somewhere himself, but I think he has good credit.
Anyway, the problem is that I don't have the title since the car isn't paid off yet and I owe the dealer money, not a bank, since the loan was taken out through them. What are the steps I have to take to sell this car to my friend who is also short on cash himself, but still has good credit?
Also, how hard would it be to sell this car to a stranger if my friend decides to back out of it since I don't have the title?
How can I sell my used 2005 car without the tile to my friend who is short on cash?
you cannot sell a car without a clear title., no matter who has good credit or not. If you did anyway, and he doesn't pay for it, the dealer will still demand from you the money, owed on the car.If he becomes deliquient and you don't pay up. this will destroy your name and credit and possible go to jail.
How can I sell my used 2005 car without the tile to my friend who is short on cash?
You are just about to find yourself in a universe of hurt. I can plainly see it coming.
First of all, it isn't legal unless the financier has agreed to transfer the loan into the other person's name, and that is the only legitimate way to do it.
Otherwise, your friend could get you in all kinds of trouble if he/she decides not to make payments, and the loan is still in your name. Then you're very screwed.
If he/she has good credit, then the bank will possibly do it, and you may make some outside arrangement with your friend to pay you a little extra, but it probably won't happen that way.
Sometimes we get in over our heads. We've all done it. Chalk it up to a lesson learned, and move on.
Good luck.

Your friend would have to go with you to your dealer, after he has gotten his loan and a check, use his check to pay off your loan, get the title on the spot, sign it over to your friend, have your friend pay you the extra $1000, and you're done.
It'll be a pain in the butt, but it's not a huge deal. Just have your friend go to his bank to get a car loan and explain the situation to them. Also, call the dealership and talk to the finance people there to find out what needs to be done, and to let them know what's going on. Between the 2 of them you should be able to figure out exactly what needs to be done, and nobody should have any problems with it as long as your friend gets the loan and you're prepared to pay the difference immediately. You should have no problem doing the same thing with a stranger as long as they can get a loan or have cash.
Going through Carmax may be easier, but you'll only be getting the trade in value for the car, so you'll end up paying a lot more to cover the balance of the loan.grown dutch rabbit white hair

How does car parts work together to move the car?
Please help me, I want to know how cars work. I understand the engine, but just not the parts that are attacted to the engines to make it work and therefore move the car.
How does car parts work together to move the car?
turn the key on .......battery sends juice to the starter that cranks the engine......spark plugs fire the gas that if sent by the fuel pump to the engine and sprayed into the engine by means of the fuel injectors......now the engine is running.
the engine is attached to the transmission and the crankshaft spins the shaft going to the rear wheels (on a rear wheel drive vehicle like a truck).....the rear axle has gears in it that are at a right angle to each other so the front of the axle spinning causes the side axle shafts to spin.
now you are moving.

What is the best car to drive in New York City for someone that has never driven there before?
For example is it good to have a powerful engine but a small car? Is it good to have a car that can accelerate quickly or any type would do? What car do you drive yourself in NYC and how do you like it? Please, try to suggest smth reasonable, no sports or luxury cars. Thnx.
What is the best car to drive in New York City for someone that has never driven there before?
its not the size that matters,
best thing to do is get a GPS navigator.
I have never driven in Sydney which is a nightmare , but when you have the naivigator on and you do not have to worry about when to turn where driving is a cinch.
Forget the car , get a navigator . i guarenttee you will not look back
What is the best car to drive in New York City for someone that has never driven there before?
sherman tank :-)
If you MUST drive into New York, ensure it is a smaller car that you don't mind dings. Besides knowing where you are going (GPS unit, Mapquest directions), at some point you are going to have to leave the car in a garage. This is why the smaller car is better -- although the parking attendants will tell you they can do any car, I would be happier myself with a smaller car to ensure there was enough room where they park (they leave no space beside, in front of, or behind the car).
There are no issues with power, but please ensure your brakes work well. Do not honk (illegal), be patient, know you will get lost and be okay with that, and I think you will have a good time ...
Since most of the time you are sitting still in traffic I would suggest a smaller car (good on gas mileage) with a larger engine in it. Nissans, Hondas, Toyotas, Mazdas, are all terrific brands. Don't buy a new one, cars get very beat-up there.
Have you consider cabs, the bus or the subway ? Parking in Manhattan is extremely expensive, and the insurance is too.
A taxi.
I have driven in NYC many, many times and I don't recommend it to anyone. If you must, drive a solid, beat-up car with good pick-up and handling, and that's comfortable for spending time standing still in traffic.
Some thing small...not powerfull and gets good gas mileage.
subway, bus, train,taxi
I've lived and driven in NY all my life. My favorite car for city traffic is an old Mercedes Diesel, the current one is a 1987 190D Turbo. If you want something newer, go for a recent Jetta Diesel. The reasons:
1) You really don't need a huge amount of power, because you're not going anywhere fast.
2) Diesels are very easy on fuel, even when stuck for hours in city traffic (My 190D gets 30 mpg in bad traffic, and 37 highway)
3) Mercedes Diesels are tough cars, hard to break
4) Old cars are better in a this city, because you will inevitably pick up dents and crunches as your drive around. Why do that to a pretty new car?
5) You can get decent one of mid-80's or early 90's vintage for under $5K, and they will give you up to 300K miles of service without a peep.
6) Mercedes will supply roadside assistance at no cost, no matter how old the car is.
7) Parts are easy to find, high quality, and cheap.
8) Once you fix something, it stays fixed. So if you get an old Merc Diesel and fix problems as they occur, after a while the car is perfect.
9) Even an old Mercedes is a classy, comfortable ride. Vintage Merc's can be head turners if the bodies are well maintained.
10) When you jam down on the accelerator, they give a little burst of smoke, which can be used to get tailgaters off your back. (ha ha).
you still want to drive in NYC don't you ?
GPS is useless in this environment
The ability to read and interpret street signs is critical as is an accurate watch to tell you the proper time day . Many traffic rules are based on what time of day an event is happening; parking , turns, lane usage etc.
A no flash car that you don't mind dinging is perfect and has the fewest blind spots possible. Avoid stick shifts.
When driving you need to have your head on a swivel at all times and your mirrors need to be set properly.
Manhattan is a completely dynamic and always changing driving environment and what messes up newbies is getting their inability to get their brains up to Manhattan street speed. You have see everything and everything is changing on a second by second basis.
You should drive one handed with your dominant hand somewhere between 11:00 and 1:00 o'clock on the wheel. This allows you to make quick lateral movements.
Lastly avoid the middle of the island until you actually have to get into it. Make your N/S times along the edges and then turn into the middle only when you have to.
Drive something you are comfortable with. I got lost on the way to pick up my son a few months ago, it was my 1st time driving in NYC. I drove in Manhattan- (I wanted to go see the Intrepid - but not in a driveby), Harlem, yonkers, the Bronx and Queens - like I said..I was lost.
I drove my 4 cylinder minivan - not small, not powerful and and no problems. Just be comfortable with what you are driving, you should not be searching for windshield wipers and fumbling looking for radio buttons.
if you are not used to NYC streets I would not recommend driving . I would either walk, take the subway, bus or even a taxi.
That's a tough one, because there's not much to choose from
once you eliminate the sports and luxury cars. I have one for
you though if you are considering a used car. The 1986-87
Honda CRX Si. This is very little, very quick, and very nimble.

(ha ha).

Cars in the 1920s were made to last a lifetime. How long do you expect your car to last before you sell it?
Collectors pay top dollar for cars made in the 20s.
Back then automakers took pride in their product.
Now, anybody driving a car more than 10 years old doesn't want to invest a dime in it because it's virtually worthless on the used car market.
These days, filling the tank of a 10 year old car doubles its value!
And does it seem like we're getting raped when we pay the money for what we believe is quality, but the car doesn't end up lasting any longer than a Yugo?
Am I the only one that feels rage about the poor quality %26amp; workmanship and the high prices we're forced to pay because of government mandated bumpers, lights, gismos, gatdgets, bells %26amp; whistles?
Cars in the 1920s were made to last a lifetime. How long do you expect your car to last before you sell it?
My cars usually last about 10 years. I think my DH and I keep cars MUCH longer than the average consumer. DH just traded in a 1979 Chevy van for a 2004 Ranger and I have a 1998 Ranger that I bought new and traded a 1989 Mustang for.

you have to take into account that in the 1920's people weren't putting 200,000 miles on a car in 10 years. let alone driving at 75 mph all the time, starting and stopping, idling in traffic for hours, etc. Plus a most cars today have automatic transmissions... which generally goes out before the engine (if everything is maintained properly.) Manual transmissions can last virtually forever.
Today's engines are FAR more reliable and long lasting than something built in the 1920's.
As for the suspension... have you ever ridden in a model t?? Leaf springs suspensions that were found on pretty much everything in the 20's were indeed hearty... however they were also rough and not very agile. Today's suspensions are far more complex, with coil overs, and McPherson strut suspensions being very common.
As for all the gizmos..... if you don't want em... don't get em, or don't use em. a windshield wiper would have been a big deal for the 1920's.... a windshield itself was an option on many cars.
I have to question your premise.
Many of the 1920's cars were built to far less precise standards than a car of today, and needed considerably more maintenance. Some of them even required the cylinder head to be pulled every 20,000 miles or so and the carbon deposits scraped off. And don't even think about trying to leave the ignition system on a 1920's car untouched for 60,000 miles like you can on a modern car.
It's just that since an old flathead motor spins at a much lower RPM, it's able to survive with far lower quality workmanship than what gets put into an engine of today.
Sorry, not true. Most 1920s cars were falling apart by the middle 1930s. In virtually all cases they had wood framed bodies and wooden floors. After ten years on some very poor roads the bodies were falling apart and were too expensive to fix.
It's true that with very careful maintenance some 1920s engines lasted well but as already said, they tended to be low-revving, low powered gas-guzzlers. Exactly the same is true today. Very careful maintenance will ensure a good quality recent car will last 30 years or more. Engines and transmissions are not the only important components, otherwise we'd all be riding round on go-karts.
The ones that have lasted best tend to be the ones that were most expensive at the time (surprise, surprise!).
If you want a cool old car the best bet from most points of view is a post 1935 model from a major manufacturer. All-steel body, four wheel brakes, more powerful engines and better electrics. In fact not too different from early 1950s cars.
I have an '83 model Mercedes Benz and I can tell you that a new set of tires AND a full tank comes nowhere near the market value.
By the way don't confuse a big options list with quality. Air-con, multi-speaker stereo etc etc have nothing to do with the actual quality of the vehicle. Any manufacturer can bolt these on to what is fundamentally a heap of s-it or onto a finely engineered vehicle.

How hard is it to get a car loan as a graduate student?
I am graduating from college this year but am planning on doing a 1-year graduate program. I had my own car that my parents bought me but it was totalled in a freak accident. They purchased a new car with the insurance money and I got my dad's old car. Technically, the car I have is supposed to go to my brother and since we won't be living together next year one car between the two of us won't work. Most car loans I have looked at have an immediate income requirement and unless someone %26quot;holds%26quot; a job for me while I'm in grad school the most I will have is $300 a month in income. I am thinking of trying to take out extra money via student loans since this will be a %26quot;necessary%26quot; expense for my schooling. Any ideas/suggestions?

YOU CAN O TO A CAR DEALER THAT CARRIES THEIR OWN PAPER EXPLAIN YOUR SITUATION ANDTRY TO GET SOMETHING YOU CAN AFFORD TO HELP GET THROUGH GRAD SCHOOL. BE HONEST AND MAKE YOUR PAYMENTS AS AGREED AND YOU SHOULD MAKE IT.

well you have to have good credit first, so i think it is kinda hard. its better if you take it out on someone Else's name
If you have a high enough FICO score, it shouldn't be difficult at all.
First talk to you parents and see what they suggest.
well it all depends on your credit score and all that but because your in college it should not be hard for you to get one . that is if you got all you bills paid for school
Depends on your credit history/score.
You need to buy a sleeper car from an old lady for CASH. only. No loans means no worries or repossessions or learn the bus runs. You are looking to go into debt slavery before you even get work.
OH lose a loans , you get a default and you will be surprised how many of your job applications get lost.

its easy if you are a new college grad..honda/toyota/hyundai..most major dealers have %26quot;grad programs%26quot;
Consider the Auto Loan Marketplace at http://creditoffernow.com/autoloan. Auto loans for any credit situation. Good Luck!

Applying for a car loan student financing programs is easy. First you will need to find companies that offer the ability to apply for fast easy student loans for car.

What I would do is to get some money together and buy yourself a well-maintained, used Honda or Toyota for less than $5,000 dollars. Stay away from leases and tote-the-note lots.
Lots of these cars available and still have a few dependable years left in them, which will get you through grad school and you won't have a car payment. Even if you did, it would be a hundred bucks a month. You can buy a new car after getting out of grad school. Also, go easy on the student loans. You have to pay it back. Good Luck!
many dealerships have 1st time buyer programs. u should check out toyota/scion i know they have one....and i think honda and mitsubishi does too. ask about it. it shouldn't be too hard if u have already developed some credit.
u will probably need a co signer

Go to your local MVD and pick up a study booklet for getting a driver's licsence. It tells you everything you need to know about the rules of driving. As for the other stuff, I would take a car for a test drive straight to a mechanic and he can tell you if the car is in good shape.

have u been living in a hole?
First you need to take driving lessons. That will teach everything including traffic rules and traffic signs. It will not teach you how to maintain a car. Then you must pass a written and driving test and be issued a license to drive a car.
Next take a community education class on maintain a car.
Consumption of fuel depends on the car some are more efficient than other. A car that consumes motor oil brake fluid and radiator water are not in good working order.
You can not learn to drive a car by reading about it... It's a hands on skill that you must learn by doing with a instructor!

How do I know how much a car uses gas mileage?
I will be going to college soon and I am looking for a car that is economic and does not use a lot of gas (gas prices are expensive!!!). I want to know when buying a car what characteristics to look for in order to see if a car uses to much gas. I know that big trucks need a lot of gas often. But in a regular small car, what info should I need to know? A car that I looked at said that gas mileage was 34 mpg city/40 mpg hwy. What does this mean? Also, do I need to check the engine? For example, 1.5L I4, 16 valve, 106@6000 hp. What do I need to look for in order to save gas. What are the best cars right now that do not use much gas, of good quality, and economic?
How do I know how much a car uses gas mileage?
here's some basic tips keep inmind when looking at gas mileage:
-the more horsepower an engine has the poorer the gas mileage.
-the more cylinders an engine has the poorer the gas mileage
-epa estimates (the 34 city/40 hwy you asked about) are only estimates and are usually a little higer than reality. but they're pretty close.
-city mpg (miles per gallon of gas) are what you can expect to get when driving in town on surface streets where you make lots of starts and stops.
-hwy mpg are what you can expect on the freeway when you are driving around 65mph without any significant or persistent slowdowns.
if you're looking at the engine try to get a 4 cylinder. it's the smallest engine available in most cars and will get the best gas mileage.
the most fuel efficient cars are the gas/electric hybrid cars available from toyota, honda and ford. notice i said car. there are several truck and suv hybrids on the market as well but from what i've read about 35 mpg hey is the best you can expect there.
look at the smaller cars. toyota and honda are great. very durable and reliable. also try the smaller brands. kia, mazda, and nissan all have small fuel efficient cars that come with great warranties. and the domestic auto makers also have some small fuel efficient cars. ford seems to be at the top of that list.
if you want to buy domestic be prepared to do some serious looking for the smaller cars. most car lots of the domestic auto makers are still overloaded with suv's and trucks. they'll do everything they can to talk you into buying a larger, less fuel efficient (but more profitable to them) suv or truck.
hope this helps and good luck on your car search.
How do I know how much a car uses gas mileage?
Think of the car you want, go to its maker's website (ex www.toyota.com), find your model, and they should have the deatils about gas mileage (given as %26quot;mpg%26quot;) on the website!
good luck
power to weight ratio is the biggest issue. example a 4cyl s10 gets worse mileage than a v6 s10. also mileage varies depending on driver state of tune. a poorly tuned car will waste gas. for that matter any stock vehicle gets worse mileage than they can. all vehicles need an improved higher flow exhuast cold air intake computer reprogramed. hondas are good cars plus made in america. and i'm die hard ford and i'm saying that. well older fords anyhow
here's a good highway and economical for the size.
ANd not an ugly car by any means
2002 Ford Taurus V6, SES gets about 29 highway
I picked up one last year for 7500 bucks, 60K and runs great. I would suggest getting from a dealer as they can add an extended warranty for aboutr 1200 bucks for 3 years 36000 miles.

2002 Ford Taurus V6, SES gets about 29 highway
I picked up one last year for 7500 bucks, 60K and runs great. I would suggest getting from a dealer as they can add an extended warranty for aboutr 1200 bucks for 3 years 36000 miles.
Do you die from car gas if you start the car in the garage with garage door shut ?
I need a serious answer .
You are in the house and the car is in the garage. You start up the car and close the garage door shut, the garage does have the little small spot for air. Can you die or suffer intoxication (or how that's call) from the CO2 that the car release while you are in the house ???
I don't think so but my mom kept arguing with me and open the garage door ~_~. Unless you are deathtrap or something. I don't want to but it is winter and it's so cold to leave it open %26gt;%26lt; .

You may not want to open the door because it's cold, but if there is incomplete combustion in a closed area you will have enough CO produced to make you sick or kill you. The engine of a car has very incomplete combustion of the gas and CO is produced in unhealthy quantity and the effect ic umulative, you don't get rid of the CO in your bloodstream for a while.
Listen to your mom
%26quot;Carbon monoxide is produced by furnaces, water heaters, cooking ranges and idling cars. It is a colorless and odorless gas that cannot be detected by smell, taste or sight. The gas is not only deadly, but deceptive as well, because carbon monoxide poisoning often masquerades as other illnesses%26quot;

if u stay there long enough
yes u can die from it actually u will die very quick if you breath in enough.
you can die from the carbon monoxide emissions but it would take a while.its more painfull that realized. you dont just fall assleep. your lungs would bleed you would go into arrest and choke.
Yes, if there is Carbon Monoxide there, your will sure die, if you don't get oxygen quickly. You fall asleep and never wake up again.
i believe its carbon monoxide poisoning.
You can but VERY slowly. If your in there for 15 minutes nothing could happen.
Yeah its definatly possible
Yes, it's carbon monoxide poisoning.
You would faint for sure. You never want to risk the chance of that. Do what your mom says.
Carbon Monoxide poisoning is what it's called. Yes you can die. Open the garage door and turn the heater on in the car. You're also stinkin up the garage with all those fumes!
You die from carbon monoxide, not the carbon dioxide. But sure, its a common suicide attempt if you are sitting the garage. But it would take a while to fill the garage and start to enter the house, so if you were in the house, it probably wouldn't be an issue as long as it wasn't running too long.
But why not start the car, open the garage door, and go back in the house. Then you are playing it safe.
Absolutely! It's called Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Internal combustion engines generate carbon monoxide gas when running. In an enclosed space, the cabron monoxide will displace the oxygen - and if you're in the garage will eventually kill you. The carbon monoxide gas may also enter the house, so running the car in a close garage is not a good idea.
Warm up the car on the driveway, not inside the garage. Carbon monoxide gas can also build up over a period of time in an enclosed space without adequate ventilation, like the inside of your house during winter.
If you stay in there, eventually. Or if you stay inside the house, and the CO2 manages to seep through the cracks underneath your door.
Breathe in enough of it, and BAM, you're out. It could take a few days or even only 2 or 3.
I suggest you keep the garage door open. Just to be safe.
Yes, you can die from the carbon monoxide emissions (CO) if the garage isn't properly ventilated (which it probably isn't). CO replaces oxygen in the bloodstream when you breathe it in, so you would be suffocating yourself. It would take several minutes for the CO to replace the oxygen in the air. But you should leave the garage door open or warm it up in the driveway.
PS What's worse, being cold or dying? Unless you live up here in minnesota or a similar latitude, please don't complain to me about the cold.
You certainly will die. My mother-in-law had a neighbor commit suicide that way. He died from carbon monoxide poisioning.
Don't do it. Don't run the engine in the garage with the door shut.
most probably yes but why leave the car ignition on when your car is inside the garage, pollution and waste of gas
In thirty five years I have had thtree suicides, one high school boy-girl PROM NIGHT death, and several others croak because they either got cold and naked and screwing or foolish enough to start a car to warm up. These INCLUDE attached garages where EVERYONE died, including the family pets. Call your local Fire Dept. and put smoke detector-carbon monoxide units where they advise. This **** is all free and will let you die of old age. I am in medicine and a great many folks that recover in hyperbaric chambers I put them in still come out with mental defects. Forget other answers, call your family doctor or Fire Dept. You can then drop dead of old age, but that cannot be helped.
