How do i attach a new muffler to my car?

i haven%26#039;t bought the muffler yet, but i want to know how to attach it before i buy it. Do i have to bolt it? and what is bolting? am i going to have to pay somebody to do it? HELP!|||You will have to cut the old one out and weld the new one in. You could bolt it, but those U-clamps can loosen over time and will rust. Take it to an exhaust shop, and expect to pay about $50 bucks to remove the old muffler and put the new one in.

Do you really not know the definition of the word %26quot;bolting?%26quot;|||take the clamps off of your old 1 and the muffler hanger. knock the old muffler off and install the new 1 with new clamps.|||Its welded... You don%26#039;t have to pay anybody if you know how to weld and have a welder... If not, you have to pay someone.|||You can bolt it to the tailpipe with U shaped clamps, but there is a danger that you might crush the tailpipe (especially if it is rusted) There are also flexible hangers that bolt the tailpipe and muffler to the underside of the car (but not solidly ) A pro would probably weld the muffler to the tailpipe.

Start with trying to remove the rusty bolts from the old one. The experience in doing that part may convince you to pay someone.|||Depends, usually you just use a U clamp that pinches the pipes together. The better method is welding, but the clamps usually work fine.

They look like this

placed over the muffler flange and the pipe and tightened until the pipe and flange are compressed onto one another.
